In this work, we developed dual electrode PMUTs, and established its working as a density sensor. Using such a device, it is possible to sense an arbitrary fluid density on a single chip. We furthermore went for a microfluidic bonding with such kind of PMUTs to create world's one of the tiniest real-time density meters in terms of the fluid volume.

Single-cell dual electrode PMUT for fluid density sensing - In this work we developed a dual electrode self-actuation sensing PMUT by using the nanofabrication techniques. Simulations using COMSOL Multiphysics 5.4 was subsequently carried out to understand the development of dynamic strain in the microplates. Thereafter we made a simple 3d printed setup in order to test the PMUT for fluid density applications.

PMUT integrated microfluidic device for fluid density sensing - The idea behind this project was to develop a microsystem which will be capable of understanding blood from a fluid mechanical standpoint. Thus, we integrated the dual electrode PMUTs we have previously made with a PDMS based microfluidic channel. It is believed that such an device can sense density of biofluid such as blood, sweat, tear, saliva etc., in volumes as small as 100 micro-liters and will be capable of measuring their density. A real time tracking principle has also been implemented with such a device which tracks the change in density happening in a person's biofluid. This capability will lead to the continuous monitoring of diseases/clinical conditions during a process like hemodialysis.
